Mary Rigg Success Story

My name is Ana Maldonado, mother of 3 with my fourth child on the way! I am from Mexico City. I was brought to the United States as a child in 1999. I first learned about Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center (MRNC) in 2014 as I searched the web for free HSE classes (GED). I decided to go back to school because I was required to get my HSE diploma in order to qualify for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). After being out of school for years, I was nervous to go back but little did I know that I will meet a wonderful lady that will forever change my life Her name was Mrs. Esther, my HSE teacher. Her dedication for education not only inspired me but also taught me so much. Before I knew it, only two months later, I passed my HSE test and graduated in June of 2014. Shortly after, in October 2014, I joined the 10-week Computer Class here at MRNC. That class opened a door full of opportunities. Towards the end of the 10 weeks, I learned that the only bilingual staff here at MRNC was leaving on maternity leave. My friend suggested that I should ask if I could replace her for the time being. That would give me the opportunity to learn some office skills that would help me get my first professional job. Stephanie James, former MRNC Vice President, gave me the opportunity to work as a contractor for a month. Before the end of my contact, she came to me and offered me a Customer Service Assistant position. I never imagined that this opportunity would open so many other doors for me. I have now been with Mary Rigg for almost five years and have received multiple promotions. I have also found my calling - I love Graphic Design.

The person who is was once a client is now in charge of designing most of our marketing materials.

What I once saw as a job I now see as a CAREER!

I am proud to say that I am one of the many individuals that Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center has provided Help, Hope and Opportunities to. Now I get to inspire other individuals!
