Summer Day Camp & LEADERS

Every year kids anxiously count down the days to Summer Day Camp at Mary Rigg. They know Summer Day Camp is their special place. It gives them structure, fun, and experiences that will guide them into the next school year and beyond.

Each week they will learn about a new animal, some they can find in their own backyards.

They’ll learn about:

  • their habitats
  • what they eat
  • their lifestyles and biology
  • how to properly care for them

At the same time, they will be in a safe environment that offers nutritious meals, helps prevent summer learning loss, and provides opportunities to have new experiences and make personal discoveries about themselves.

Summer Day Camp offers extended care hours with drop off starting at 6:30 a.m., and pick up required by 5:45 p.m., Monday-Friday. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily and dinner is provided Monday-Thursday with the generous support of Second Helpings.

Generous support from donors and sliding scale fees keep costs manageable for families.

LEADERS

The middle-school years are some of the most vital in a child's life - a time when decisions are made that impact the life of a student in pivotal ways. During these years children choose their own friends, develop attitudes about school, and start thinking about what they will stand for, and what they will stand against.

An extension of Summer Day Camp, the LEADERS program gives students ages 11-14 the opportunity to more deeply explore potential career and college options. In addition to the more traditional summer day camp activities, students will:

  • Shadow professionals in the workplace
  • Visit Indiana colleges and universities, sitting in on lectures where possible
  • Hear from current college students and alumni
  • Take part in service activities
  • Eligible students will complete the 21st Century Scholar application
  • Older students will work with staff and volunteers to start mapping out their high school plans
